Trabants

More than three million Trabant cars were produced in East Germany between and 1991 when the production line at Zwickau, Sachsen , finally closed.
Mediocre performance, poor build and a smoky two-stroke engine meant the humble Trabant had few admirers. To put petrol into an old Trabant you had to lift the bonnet, fill the tank with petrol, add the two stroke oil, and then rock the car back and forth to mix!
Often abandoned by East Germans as they fled West after the fall of the Berlin Wall, or sold for next to nothing because they were deemed worthless, the humble Trabi has become a cult classic and there are plans afoot to relaunch the Trabant as an electric car.
The domain name trabants.co.uk is for sale for £1,000.
